RECYCLING: still very much an ongoing concern

Recycling and waste management are areas of ongoing concern to many of our residents. These are also areas of significant concern in the broader community. We will continue to monitor local action on these topics. Read the ABC News article on this issue here
Residents are told that, in yellow bins, we should not be putting soft plastics (e.g. plastic bags), polystyrene foam such as that used in take-away coffee cups & packaging, nappies, food scraps or broken glass.
Especially as glass items are likely to break between your place & leaving the truck, WSKRA is exploring with CoPP the possible need for a receptacle in which residents can put glass for recycling, keeping it separate from plastic & paper.
Street Cleaning: the indiscriminate dumping of hard rubbish on footpaths is not a good look

Some WSKRA members have expressed concern about the quality of local street cleaning and the dumping of hard waste in our streets, especially outside apartment blocks.
WSKRA alerted members to Council’s examination in mid-July 2019 of a review of these issues. Council adopted steps which, over three years, are to:
- Enhance consistency & reliability of street cleaning
- Re-allocate resources to improve services in relation to leaf fall, shopping precinct amenity, laneway cleaning and after-hours responses
- Increase consistency of the four-weekly cleaning of residential streets
- Adopt new training, communication, priorities & methods to enhance services
- Create a Litter Prevention Programme
Council is again to review street cleaning in three years’ time.

We have contacted Council and the electricity distributor in our area, CitiPower, regarding tree pruning including powerline pruning programs. Council is obliged to inform residents of these programs and does so via its website and publication within the local Port Phillip Leader. Many residents may not be aware of this. Read more
