From 1998 to 2018, there were nine flooding events in West St Kilda. In July 2019, after collating the results of two surveys of residents’ flood experiences, WSKRA provided a detailed report to Melbourne Water. WSKRA also provided a detailed account of residents’ attempts to initiate remedial action in response to flooding events over the past two decades.
Melbourne Water is to review the issues relating to flooding in West St Kilda in the context of such issues in other areas with a view to prioritising what they call a “preliminary investigation” of what’s happening here. They caution that, in what’s a long list, there are many competing priorities, so the review may take “some time”. Responsible authorities are now at least aware or the problem, a step further from when they claimed to know nothing about any flooding in West St Kilda.
